Now that I am more than half-way through my doctoral research, I have a one-month break. With my PGR9 doctoral candidacy confirmed, and after five semesters of teaching, it is time to pause and reflect on the next steps. I have the opportunity to spend one month in Norway and Iceland here towards the end of their wintertime.
My inner polar bear is hungry for this trip, time back in the land of snow, time for mys, hygge and to learn this time about lagom
As well as the time set aside for reflection and exploring , I have a small research project to work on here. My daughter Michaela Selway is hosting a podcast for the University of Auckland History department. You can listen to past episodes here. She and I are developing a set of episodes together profiling some of the awesome women scientists from the post-Enlightenment period referred to as the Age of Wonder (1768 – 1831). We are examining what made them successful in an era when women were not encouraged to become scientists, when scientific endeavor was a male-dominated pursuit. I will let you know when the podcasts are available.
